Terrible Beauty, as its name suggests, is dedicated to investigations of aesthetics, politics and philosophy. It is the eventual response to years of regretably brief e-mail correspondence with my friends on topics worthy of more thought.
My thanks to Joseph Kugelmass, Greg Steirer, and Keith Witham, all of whom encouraged me to bother, and promised to read.
I am currently working on a Phd. in Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. My dissertation studies the aesthetic intersections of Avant-Garde American Film and Modernist American Poetry, particularly the issues of temporality and language as they transpire in the filmwork of Hollis Frampton, Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, Marie Mencken and Michael Snow.
